A free health center in Ellsworth could be closing its doors. The Ellsworth Free Medical Clinic is run by volunteer doctors and nurses. They’ve been treating people who have no medical insurance, including medicare and medicaid, for the last 20 years. The clinic operates on grants and donations and the office coordinator says that money is running out. Without a boost in the budget, they may have shut down, as soon as March. Office Coordinator Linda Grindle says, “Any and every donation is accepted. Many of my patients leave money and I accept a $2 donation with the biggest thank you as I would a $50 donation. I have patients leave a variety of amounts of money and we’re just trying to put it all together.”Volunteers are currently working on getting some new grants for the clinic.
