Smokers in Bangor may soon have a harder time finding outdoor areas to use tobacco products. On Monday, the Government Operations Committee voted 3-2 in favor of addressing a proposed ordinance that would ban the use of tobacco products outside of designated areas in the city’s parks. The ordinance will now be discussed and voted on by the 9 member city council on January 28th.If passed, more than 30 parks and recreation areas would have to create those smoking areas.Opponents say it’s unjust behavior modification, while supporters believe it’s a necessary step towards ensuring a healthy community. This was the 5th time the issue of smoking at public parks has been addressed by the committee.
