Sheriff Smith: Chief Deputy Fired because It’s Time to go a Different Direction

Updated 1 year ago

Washington County Chief Deputy Michael St. Louis has been fired. The long-time deputy was let go on Friday by Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith. “Due to recent developments, I felt it was time we went in a different direction,” said Smith. Sheriff Smith would not elaborate on what those recent developments were, but did say it has nothing to do with any type of investigation or anything illegal. Smith tells TV 5 that he and St. Louis met for an hour Monday morning, and they both still support each other. According to Smith, St. Louis said he also felt it was time to move on, and said he was kind of “burned out”. Smith will need to hire a new chief deputy, but says he will take his time making that decision.
