Knox County may Face Lawsuit for Fatal Plane Crash

Updated 2 years ago

The family of one of the three young men killed in a November plane crash at the Knox County Regional Airport has notified the county they may seek as much as $2 million in damages for what a lawyer called “the negligence of Knox County and its employees, agents or servants.” Attorney Steven Silin filed the notice with county commissioners on Dec. 20 on behalf of the estate of 24-year-old Marcelo Rugini, a University of Maine student from Brazil who was a passenger in the Cessna that crashed shortly after takeoff from the Owls Head airport. The notice does not mean that Silin will sue. The victims were members of the same UMaine fraternity. A county attorney tells The Portland Press Herald, he can’t comment until a lawsuit is filed.
