Hermon Hosts High School Wrestling Holiday Tournament

The top high school wrestlers in Eastern and Central Maine invading Hermon High School today for the Hawks invitational tournament. 12 schools were able to make the trip.There’s a familiar face! Our Chief Photographer Mark Rediker enjoying some time at the meet with his son Andrew who was competing.Here’s a few of the matches today. A great contest between Sam Thomas of PCHS and Jon Sargent from MDI. This one went three rounds, but Thomas was able to score the pinfall with 45 seconds left in the match. He moved on to the next round.Winslow’s Dillon Pelletier and Dexter’s Zach Caron going the distancein their match. The decision went 7-3 in favor of Caron.Rachel LaPointe from Winslow also advancing today, but she did fall to Erskine’s Isaac Taylor, who pinned LaPointe in the first round of the semifinals.In the big boys weight class, 285 pounds, Luke Potter of Hermon wrestling Ryan Malcolm of Madison. This one was a stalemate for most of the time. A great match by both, but it was Malcolm who would sneak into the finals.Finally, how about Victor Irwin, defending state champion from Brewer? He was able to win his semifinal match in 22 seconds today over Sean Cote from Winslow. Congrats to all the participants in today’s tourney.
