Accused Killer Claims Police Violated his Rights

A Jackson man accused of murdering a Florida man in February wants statements he made to police thrown out. Prosecutors say Daniel Porter, 24, killed Jerry Perdomo, 31, in a drug-related homicide in February. Perdomo disappeared after making a trip from Florida to Maine in February. His body was found nearly two weeks later in Newburgh, on property belonging to Porter’s family. Police say Perdomo was shot in the head. Porter has pleaded not guilty. Porter’s attorney, Jeff Silverstein, filed a motion to suppress saying statements Porter made to Connecticut and Maine State Police before his arrest violated his rights. According to documents on the Maine Judicial Branch website, Silverstein and Porter want nearly a weeks worth of evidence collected by police to not be allowed in the trial. Porter’s trial is scheduled for April.
