Local Officials are reacting to the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed 26 people – 20 students and 6 adults. Maine Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said police in Maine get constant training for that type of situation and contact between police and schools is a high priority.”All of the school shootings that have happened around the country have been far away. This is New England. It’s a horrible tragedy and our hearts go out to everyone affected down there.”McCausland said 60 new officers who graduated Friday are among those prepared for incidents like the one in Connecticut. Governor Paul LePage has also ordered flags to be lowered in respect for the victims of the shooting.
