A man convicted of murdering another man during a street fight in Bangor two years ago has lost his appeal to Maine’s highest court. Zachary Carr, 21, is serving 35 years for killing John “Bobby” Surles in January 2010. Carr claimed a lower court should have granted him a new trial based on the state’s failure to disclose a recorded interview with a key witness. Carr’s lawyer said that information could have bolstered Carr’s claim that he acted in self defense. Carr wanted the Maine Supreme Court to overturn his sentence. The court has affirmed the original judgement.
