Senator Olympia Snowe is days away from wrapping up her political career in Washington. Thursday Senator Susan Collins paid tribute to her long-time colleague on the Senate floor. Collins says when Snowe retires, she’ll join the pantheon of great leaders Maine has produced – like Margaret Chase Smith, Ed Muskie, George Mitchell and Bill Cohen. “The people of Maine and America are grateful for her many years of service. And I am grateful for her leadership and friendship. And I know that Olympia Snowe will continue to influence national police for many years to come.”Snowe’s said she plans to create a political action committee to support consensus-building candidates for the future. Former Maine Governor, now Senator-elect, Angus King will officially fill her post when he and other elected lawmakers are sworn in, in January.
