Rockland Fire Fighters Host Cook-Off

The Rockland Fire Department hosted their 2012 “Chili And Chowder Challenge” on Monday.About 200 people came out to Trackside Station Restaurant in Rockland for a taste of some quality local food.8 individuals and 9 restaurants submitted their best chili and chowder.Each patron also had the chance to vote for their favorite.Fog Bar And Cafe in Rockland took home first prize in both categories.Proceeds from the event go towards the Muscular Dystrophy Association.That is something the fire fighters say is a cause very close to their hearts.”Anything that we can do to give back to the community is something that the fire department really wants to get involved with and to benefit a good cause and to have a good time and eat some chili, its all good by me,” said Rockland Fire Fighter Carl Anderson. Last year the event raised just over 2,700 dollars.This year they expect to have raised about 3,000 dollars, thanks to a generous donation from the winner of their 50/50 raffle who gave all his prize money back to MDA.
