In Carmel, decking the halls for the holidays is a community affair. On Sunday, the town held its community tree lighting at the Simpson Memorial Library. It’s a joint effort of the library and the town historical society, with help from a local cub scout troup.Piper Mountain donated the tree after it was picked out by a group of Carmel kindergartners. Organizers say lighting that tree is something the community looks forward to every year.”I get calls, ‘When are we going to have the tree lighting?’ ‘What time does it start?’. We’ve had some interest expressed from other groups that might want to partner with us on this next year so maybe we can expand it. That would be great,” said Simpson Memorial Library Director Becky Ames. After the tree was lit, the group walked to the historical society building singing Christmas carols.
