Local Stores Participate in Small Business Saturday

Many people in Bangor headed downtown to support small businesses this weekend.The United States Senate passed a resolution introduced by Senator Olympia Snowe and the Committee on Small Business marking this November 24th “Small Business Saturday.” Some businesses around Bangor have been participating for the past few years.Store owners said, even though you can save a lot of money on Black Friday deals, you miss out on the personal experience you get when you shop local. Store Manager of Mexicali Blues, Julie Baker-Leaden said “It’s customer service. People are going to be treated a whole lot different in small town America’s downtown communities than they will at any big box store.””This year has been a lot busier and had a lot more support behind it. You definitely see a lot more businesses in downtown Bangor going for it,” said Matt Bishop, an associate at Epic Sports in Bangor. Senator Snowe added “Small businesses are more than just the backbone of our nation’s economy: they are engrained in the fabric of our communities.”Many of the business owners say they will continue to participate in this annual event.
