Guilford United Methodist Church Serves up a Holiday Meal

Updated 1 year ago

Hot food, tasty desserts, and good friends, that’s what Thanksgiving is all about at the Guilford United Methodist Church. Community member, Kristy Pratley said “It’s all about sharing, connecting and coming together, no matter who we are, no matter what our values are, or what our beliefs are, we need to take care of each other. That’s what this is all about.”The church has been holding this annual Thanksgiving dinner for almost a decade. It’s for anyone in the community who wants a hot meal and some socialization. They also have a kitchen full of food.”Any fixing you can possibly imagine and an incredible amount of desserts, pies, cakes and cookies,” said Pratley. Volunteers donate their time to serve the food and some even deliver hot meals to families who can’t make it out to the church.”It beats cooking by myself which I don’t do very often,” said Dale Shess, who was enjoying his full plate of food. For one family, helping out at the church has become a tradition. Ann Dutremble said, “I started doing it with my children and now I do it with my grandchildren.”The family said the best part is knowing even the little time they spend helping makes a difference. “Plus it’s a fun way to spend your Thanksgiving knowing that you’re helping others,” said 15-year-old Megan Bergeron. Her sister, Haley Bergeron agrees. “I love serving the people because its a great way to see them smile when you serve them their food.”Of course everyone has their favorite Holiday dish, from the turkey to the apple pie, everyone left the church with a smile on their face and a stomach full of food.
