Ellsworth Downtown Businesses to Take Part in Small Business Saturday

If you haven’t started already, ’tis the season to begin your holiday shopping. Small businesses are hoping you’ll skip the long Black Friday lines, and shop at their stores instead. This weekend, downtown shops all over the country, including stores in Ellsworth, will be celebrating Small Business Saturday.”It can get kind of crazy on Black Friday, so Small Business Saturday is for those shoppers that really want to just take their time and really be able to look things over,” said Phyllis Young, Associate Director of the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce. These stores can’t offer you doorbuster deals, but they can offer you some discounts and a more personal shopping experience.”We know our products. We order all the products. We know where they are,” said Michael Curtis, Owner of Union River Toy and Book Co. on Main Street.Young said, “People are excited to have you in their shop. I think they have a lot of really great items, they’re very affordable. They’ll help you select just the right gift for who you’re looking for.”Just in case the shop needs a little extra help finding those gifts, Santa Claus himself will be visiting Union River on Saturday from 11am-1pm. Curtis is hoping Mr. Claus will bring even more shoppers downtown.”Small businesses struggle to make it. I think it’s an important thing to remember that it is the backbone of our economy,” said Curtis. It’s no secret your business is what his shop and many others in town are asking for this Christmas.
