Bangor School Department Superintendent Recognized For Major Award

Bangor’s superintendent of schools is being recognized for her high achievement over the last 4 years.On Thursday, the Bangor School Committee recognized Dr. Betsy Webb for receiving the “2013 Maine Superintendent Of The Year” award from the Maine School Superintendents Association.She won the award in October. On Thursday night, Dr. Webb was congratulated by members of the community as well as by Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, who sent messages on their behalf.She was recognized for her efforts in graduation rates, budgeting, and improving science and technology education.Dr. Webb says her efforts don’t stop here, “We have challenges in front of us and its important that we look to work together, and the most successful school systems, they have many conversations, and they think about things in different ways but, at the end of the day, its about the students.”Bangor Mayor Nelson Durgin even gave her a key to the city.Dr. Webb says she’s proud to win the award herself, but sees the honor as an achievement of the entire district.
