UNH Shuts Out UMaine Hockey At Alfond Arena

The UMaine hockey team with a great effort on Friday night, despite losing to top ranked Boston College, 4-2. So today, the Black Bears were hoping to put together another good game, this time against rival UNH.Dan Sullivan back in net for UMaine and still looking for his first win of the season.The problem for the Black Bears in this game was penalties. Three guys going to the box in the first three minutes. That led to an open netfor Austin Block, who puts the Wildcats ahead 1-0 early in the 1st period.A few minutes later, a great chance for Maine on the power play. But Nick Pryor’s shot rings the right post, so the Black Bears are unable to score.Late in the period, Eric Knodel breaks away, fresh out of the penalty box, and fires a rocket past Sullivan to make it 2-0 UNH.Then in the 2nd, just as UMaine kills off a power play, it’s Block againwho scores for the second time in the game. The Wildcats would add anotheras UMaine loses today, 4-0, to UNH. The Black Bears fall to 1-8 overall this season.
