Drivers Will Be Paying More as Maine Turnpike Tolls Increase

Updated 2 years ago

Tolls are going up on the Maine Turnpike. Beginning Thursday, tolls for cars will increase to $3 at the toll plaza in York, to $2.25 in New Gloucester and to $1.75 in West Gardiner. Tolls will also go up from $1 to $1.50 at the northbound entrance in Wells and the southbound entrance in Gray. Rates for E-ZPass users will go up on average by 1 cent per mile, or 15 percent. Cash tolls for cars traveling the entire 109-mile turnpike from York to Augusta will increase from $5 to $7. Turnpike officials say the higher tolls will generate an extra $21 million a year to cover the turnpike’s operating budget, maintenance and long-term debt service. The last toll increase was in February 2009.
