Zombies Take Over Bucksport
Every October, a little life comes to the landscape of Route 46 in Bucksport, filling a typically dead silence with the sound of Iris and Michael Wood’s Halloween spirit.”We just love it,” said Michael Wood, who along with his wife, has created a 60-member zombie family next to their house.Made of piping, masks and thrift store clothing, the couple has spent countless hours and dollars designing the zombies to be ready for the Halloween season.Iris explained, “They all have names. They all have names and personalities. You just get attached to them.”They started creating the characters years ago to be used merely as props for Michael’s band, but as their fondness for the project grew, so did the number of zombies.Iris said, “We have a whole garage full of them, and we just go out and pick the outfit we think that is going to work for the personality we’re looking for for the mask.”The zombies will stay on display through Halloween, only to return next October to liven up the area once again.”We still have some more we’re ordering for next year. This is going to go on and on, you know,” said Iris. The public is invited to stop by and see their work, which can found at their home on the Bucksport-Dedham town line.
