Grievance Hearing Underway for Hancock County Prosecutor

A Hancock County prosecutor accused of violating nine rules of the Maine Bar was in court in Bangor for a grievance hearing, Monday.Assistant District Attorney Mary Kellett appeared before the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar in connection with a case she prosecuted in 2009 against Vladek Filler.According to a grievance report, Filler was convicted of gross sexual assault against his wife, but was acquitted two years later after a judge determined evidence had been left out of the trial, and Kellett made prejudicial statements to the jury during closing arguments.Monday, Filler testified he never received certain recordings he requested from the state, and his lawyer wasn’t allowed to mention he and his wife were having a heated custody dispute at the time of her accusations.Kellett’s attorney countered that Filler’s lawyer mentioned the dispute in both his opening and closing statements. The hearing continues Tuesday.
