One Community Says Goodbye to a Former Elementary School

Residents on Washington Street in Brewer are saying goodbye to a building on their block.This week the Washington Street School was demolished. For years, this was where elementary school students learned everyday, but there are There are new plans for the area.Parks & Recreation Director, Ken Hanscom says this land will be the home for new youth soccer and baseball fields. They are also adding a 3 mile walking path.For one former student, it’s a bitter sweet moment. Barbara Carlow said, “There’s a lot of memories here, a lot of people, but at the same time it’s not going to be an eyesore. It will evolve from my generation to my grandchildren and the community children, so you can’t go wrong.The Parks and Recreation Director says the renovation will begin next year.
