Over 800 people participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Bangor on Saturday. The walk was all about raising funds and awareness of the disease. Organizers arranged a promise garden and participants held pinwheel flowers to show support. Different colored flowers were representing a personal connection to the disease. The main purpose of the walk is to raise money, but it also brings people together who are affected by Alzheimer’s.The Executive Director for the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, Laurie Trenholm, said “There’s a really great aspect to the walk that allows people to connect to others with the disease and really get a sense of not being alone.”Awareness walks for the disease were held all over the state, but Saturday’s walk was the last one of the year. Organizers said the participants raised over $80,000.
