The Maine Supreme Judical court is moving the appeal hearing in a Bangor murder case from Bucksport High School to court – out of concerns for safety. The court was scheduled to hear the appeal for Zachary Carr at the high school late next month. It’s part of the court’s outreach program to educate students about the judicial process. Carr was convicted last year of killing 19-year-old John “Bobby” Surles during a street fight in Bangor. Buckport’s principal raised concerns about the idea this week.During Carr’s murder trial, police confiscated a gun outside the courtroom. An official with the Law Court says there was no reason to take any risk with the appeal hearing at the high school when it could easily be heard in a courthouse in Bangor in November. Another case will be chosen for students to listen in on.
