Voters had the chance to speak with candidates running for office in both the House and Senate Thursday night. The Maine People’s Alliance, alongside residents of Bangor, hosted a town hall meeting, taking place at the Hammond St. Congregational Church. Candidates were pressed on a variety of subjects including healthcare, tax equality, and the legality of worker’s unions. One organizer, Ben Chin, says that tonight’s event was about more than just the issues in Augusta, “What tonight is about is really reclaiming the election as a people’s process, as something that is fundamentally about democracy and making sure that neighbors can come together, talk about the issues that matter to them, and really press people for real solutions.” The Maine People’s Alliance has chapters in Lewiston, Augusta, and Bangor. They meet each month to discuss issues within their communities. If you would like more information on the MPA, visit mainepeoplesalliance.org.
