First Ladies Surprise Students and Teachers in Brewer
It started out as a Skype conversation, but technology has its glitches. ” It just froze. Can you hear us,” asked Cherrie MacInnis, a third grade teacher at the Brewer Community School. Students and teachers thought the chat was over, once the projection screen was rolled up. ” I thought they canceled it,” said one third grade student. They didn’t cancel the event, they made it even better. Former First Lady Barbara Bush and Maine First Lady Ann LePage were at the Brewer Community School. Students asked the ladies questions, like what’s their favorite part about being first ladies. ” I guess, my favorite part, probably, was the opportunity to do good things,” said Mrs. Bush. ” Supporting the men and women in the military and their families,” said Mrs. LePage. There was another special guest too, Mrs. Bush’s dog, Mini Me. The dog was named after a character from the movie Austin Powers. ” People think I named her Mini Me because we both have white hair, not true,” laughed Mrs. Bush. Mrs. Bush and Mrs. LePage didn’t stay in Brewer too long, but it looks like their surprise will leave memories for a lifetime.
