Bangor City Council Votes Against Hope House Expansion Project
A proposal to expand the Hope House in Bangor was denied Monday night by the Bangor City Council. The councilors voted against changing a zoning code that would allow for an expansion.Penobscot Community Health Care wanted to add 50 units to their space for transitional housing.A nearly two hour long public hearing preceded the council’s vote. Some local residents expressed concerns of safety, saying adding more rooms could attract the wrong kind of people to the community. However, medical professionals who addressed the council argued that housing more residents could help a great deal of people in need.
