The Bangor planning board will consider an effort by a local church to expand Tuesday night.Bangor Baptist Church on outer Broadway wants to build a new youth center. The 8,000 square foot building would go directly behind the church in a space that’s now used for a parking lot. Senior Pastor Jerry Mick says plans have been in the works for at least six years. He hopes it will offer area teenagers a sense of direction.”Obviously, there’s so much pull for them to get involved in, that it’s typically not good. So this is going to be a safe environment, a place where they can come and meet other teens and grow and hopefully get some teaching that will help them make good decisions.”The city’s expected to approve the church’s site plan. Then they’d work to get a building permit and try to break ground in the next couple of months. In the last few years, the church has also added a nursery and a children’s center.
