Bangor Fire Department Treated to Labor Day Lunch
Labor Day is the unofficial end to summer. But many people couldn’t take the day off for a barbeque because they had to work.As Wayne Harvey reports, one of those groups had a little thank you delivered to them.”Sometimes it may be police departments, it might be the fire department or maybe it’s a hospital and so throughout the nation, we’ve actually taken our time to recognize one area each year and today we chose this station.”This station is Bangor Fire Station Number 5 on Hogan Road. Five firefighters are working a 24 hour shift on Labor Day. But the other crews in this station who had Monday off will not be forgotten. There is more coming for them.”There’s a very short amount of people on hand today for this fire station alone, so we want to take time throughout the whole week and try to focus on them so everyday we’ll come down and we’ll bring food to them periodically through the day to make sure everybody gets a little taste of Olive Garden.”Station 5 covers homes and businesses on Bangor’s East Side, including the Olive Garden. If anything were to happen at the restaurant, these firefighters would be the first to arrive.”It’s always nice to hear from the people who we support and protect especially in our own district here.”The food delivered included chicken parmesan, lasagna, and of course salad and bread sticks. It’s something to make being at work on a holiday a little easier.”We’re away from our families and I think that everybody tends to think about the people that are away from their families on the times of the holidays and stuff like that. It’s nice to feel welcomed in the community.”"Firefighters throughout the country put their lives on the line to help save people like you and I throughout the world and they are very, very important people, so we just wanted to take the time out today to focus on them and to say thank you.”Wayne Harvey, WABI TV5 NEWS, Bangor.
