Oakland Teachers Take Pay Cut to Help Reach Flat Budget 

The teachers of RSU 18 in the Oakland area have stepped up to try to solve their district’s budget issues.Earlier this month, voters rejected the budget for a second time.Superintendent Gary Smith says teachers have volunteered to take a pay cut.The teachers made the offer in an attempt to help the district reach a flat budget.Smith says the pay cut would save the district about 60-thousand-dollars.The budget now heads to voters during a district budget meeting scheduled for September 20th.It’s at the Performing Arts Center in Messalonskee High School.There’s also a district-wide referendum on October second.
