Voters Reject RSU 18 School Budget For Second Time 

For the second time in less than three months voters in the five towns that make up RSU 18 have rejected the district’s proposed budget.RSU 18 Superintendent Gary Smith that the current proposal was nearly $500,000 less than the one voters rejected back in June, but it was still struck down Tuesday by a margin of 1031-831.The budget has been criticized for being too large and having too big an impact on the towns.The most recent proposal was a 2% increase over last years budget. More than $400,000 of that was added salary and benefit costs.Smith says he’s disappointed by the outcome of the vote, but says that voters have sent a strong clear message.The board will work to adopt a new budget and another vote will be scheduled for later this year.
