Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Report Rise in Moose Population

Maine’s moose population is on the rise.A new survey says the state’s moose count is at about 75-thousand. That’s more than double the number just a decade ago where the count was a little over 29-thousand.Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife biologist, Lee Kantar, conducted the survey in a low-flying helicopter for the second straight year this past winter.Maine’s annual moose hunting lottery was being held Saturday in the Western Maine. This year more than 3-thousand permits are being awarded.Maine has the largest moose population by far of any state in the continental United States.
