Kevin Raye Wins Republican Nomination for 2nd District

Kevin Raye has defeated Blaine Richardson for the Republican nomination in the 2nd District U.S. House race in Maine. The victory by Raye sets up a rematch of the 2002 race betweenhim and Michael Michaud, the Democrat who won the election and isnow seeking his sixth congressional term. Early, unofficial results show Raye, who is completing fourterms in the state Senate, has outpolled Richardson, a three-decadeNavy veteran and businessman. Raye, of Perry, served as a top aide to U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowebefore his legislative stint, which he finished as Senatepresident. He owns a century-old family mustard business in easternMaine. Raye far outspent Richardson, who is aligned with conservativemovement.
