Current And Future Black Bears Get Their Name Called By MLB

The MLB Draft wrapping up today. Last year, two Black Bears were chosen, and this year, two more current UMainers have been selected. Junior pitcher Jeff Gibbs was taken last night in the 9th round, and I was told by Coach Trimper today that he’ll sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks. This afternoon, one of Gibbs’ buddies in the rotation, Steve Perakslis, was also drafted. The Chicago Cubs taking the righty, whose also a junior, in the 21st round. Peraklis was an All-America East Second Team selection this season, going 5-5 with a team-best 3.81 ERA. Maine coach Steve Trimper says he’ll respect whatever decision Perakslis makes, whether it’s staying or going.Incoming UMaine signees Dayton Dawe and Jake Marks were also drafted. Coach Trimper says he doesn’t know yet what their decision will be.
