Building Boats Proves to be a Lesson in Math and Science for Searsport Students

Building boats turned into a lesson in math and science for students in Searsport.Six students from Searsport District High School teamed up with Maine boatbuilder Greg Rossel to build two shellback dinghies at the Penobscot Marine Museum. The project uses real-world applications to teach students math and science. They also learned a valuable lesson in teamwork.”It’s the confidence and fun and the teamwork that comes from it, the rest of the math and science mean something,” said Rossel. The four months of hardwork paid off for the students when the boats were christened Friday.
