The remains of another school year at the University of Maine in Orono are now up for grabs – at great prices. The annual Clean Sweep Sale is going on through Saturday, May 19th.Everything for sale is what students left behind when they moved off campus a couple of weeks ago. The sale is organized by the Bodwell Center for Service and Volunteerism. The money it raises goes to support an on-campus food pantry and thrift store, as well as local service projects. The sale has become a popular end-of-school tradition. 200 people were lined up to shop when it began at 8 a.m. Friday.”We have international students and students that travel long distances to come here and they can’t bring their things home with them,” says Lisa Morin, the coordinator of the Bodwell Center. “So the graciousness of our students leaving things behind makes it easier for some of our residents and citizens to get good deals on things they might not be able to get otherwise.”The sale day on Friday ended at 6 p.m. But the bargain hunting begins, again, at 8 a.m. Saturday and ends at 2 p.m.The sale is outside Estabrooke Hall on Munson Road on the Umaine CampusWhat’s left over at the end of the day will be donated to local charities.
