This past Saturday was Graduation Day for the University of Maine. There was a member of the senior class who couldn’t be there. But tonight, Jackie Blanchard of Corinth got a pretty good consolation.Blanchard was an honors student in the College of Engineering, and also a manager for the UMaine women’s basketball team. She balanced a big plate while also battling cancer, which she’s had since age 11. That kept her from being in Orono Saturday. Tonight, Eastern Maine Medical Center giving Jackie her own surprise ceremony. There were some pretty well-known guests in attendance. Governor Baldacci, UMaine President Paul Ferguson, Coach Richard Barron, and of course, the Black Bear basketball team along with family and friends. They all had some nice words for Jackie, and she herself enjoyed the night.
