Two Killed In Rt. 117 Crash 

A mother and daughter died in a crash between a logging truck and a vehicle on Route 117 in Harrison Wednesday.According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office, Linda S. Labonte, 63, was driving south on Route 117 when her vehicle crossed the center line into the path of a logging truck. Jeffrey Coffin, 43, of South Paris, was driving the truck and attempted to avoid a collision but could not.The truck went off the road and spilled some of the load of logs in the attempt to avoid a collision.Labonte was declared dead at the scene. LifeFlight took Carmen R. Smith, 85, of Harrison to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she was later pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.Coffin was not hurt in the crash, the sheriff’s office said. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection responded to clean up the estimated 180 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled from the truck.Route 117 between Upton Road and Plains Road remained closed until 3 a.m. Thursday.Investigators and members of the reconstruction team from the sheriff’s office are investigating the crash.
