Busy Day On The High School Diamond To End First Week

We are finishing up the first week of the regular season for high school baseball and softball and another perfect day for it today. We’ll start at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.The Rams sporting new uniforms and up against Brunswick today. Bangor leading 1-0 in the last of the third. Christian Corneil shoots one into centerfield and that was good enough to bring in Carl Farnham from third.The Rams getting a solid pitching performance from Greg Duff. The Rams win it 5-0… Duff pitched a two hitter.In Hermon, Presque Isle down for the weekend. They’ll play against Old Town tomorrow. Hermon pitcher Will Perkins gets Corey Belanger on strikes.They played two today. Presque Isle wins the opener 2-0 and game two 7-4.More baseball. Washington Academy making the trip to Bangor to tangle with John Bapst in a twin bill. Bapst pitcher Max Andrews gets Andrew Hall swinging. The Crusaders jumped on the Raiders early. Bottom of the first, Sean Curran bangs one into right. It gets past the outfielder and Andrew Catlin comes in to score. John Bapst opens the season with a sweep, 16-4 and 12-4.To the softball diamond we go. Brewer hosting Cony. Two of the top programs around. Cony pitcher Sonja Morse throwing smoke. She gets Sarah Babin. Cony coach Ray Bowdoin doing stats on his smart phone. Top of the third, no score, until Erica Brochu belts one the other way. It one hops the fence. Molly Russell was tagging at second, but she comes flying around and just gets under the tag. Cony gets four in the inning and they blank Brewer, 7-0.The Hermon softball team playing Presque Isle. Wildcat pitcher Lauren Ackerson gets Gabby Bryant on strikes. The Hawks have a pretty good pitcher in the circle as well. Abby Burgess strikes out Kelsey Gilson. Hermon sweeps the two games today, 6-0 and 13-1. Burgess pitched both games allowing seven total hits.
