Young Photographers Show Off Their Work

Young photographers from all over Maine are showing off their best work this weekend. The Waterville Boys and Girls Club is once again sponsoring kids with cameras.More than 200 photos were entered this year, taken by Mainers aged 18 and under. The photos were judged by three professional photographers on four categories: originality, composition, technical, and impact.Several of the photographs will be sent to a regional competition and hopefully some will qualify for the national event.According to Steve Aucoin of the Waterville Boys and Girls Club, “We do our best to make sure that nothing in this cost any of the kids any money. So that they can get their photograph entered in here. It’s remarkable. It’s a remarkable view of how kids see their lives here living here.”A photo taken by Anton Eltsov of Oakland won best in show, scoring 66 out of a possible 75 points.Organizers are encouraging kids to start taking pictures now to enter next spring’s competition. The photos will be on display in the center building at 97 Main St. in Waterville through the weekend.
