A brush fire in Atkinson is one of nearly two dozen reported across Maine on Friday.According to the Maine Forest Service, a Buck Road resident was burning grass and brush around 7:00 PM when he lost control of his fire. The fire quickly spread and ignited a 20 x 20 foot shed containing nearly $3000 worth of personal items. The Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department responded and quickly knocked down the blaze, containing it to the shed and a half acre of land. The resident, whose name has not yet been released, was cited for a misdemeanor offense because he had not obtained an open burning permit. The forest service is warning Mainers to be careful with any outdoor fires. They should get a permit from local fire officials before burning.
