Maine Forest Service and Local Firefighters on Scene of 5-Acre Blaze 

Local firefighters and Maine Forest Service forest rangers are battling a 5-acre wildfire in Gilead on mountainous terrain off of Route 2. According to the Maine Forest Service firefighters have had to use ATV’s to get to a forest clearing and then hike to the fire site. The Maine Forest Service helicopter has been dropping water on the fire to bring it under control. We’re told the fire began Wednesday. No word yet on what caused the fire, but officials say there was probably a human element. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag warning for parts of Maine, indicating high danger for fires due to dry, windy conditions.
