Maine House Votes to Uphold LePage’s Veto of Mortage Foreclosure Bill

The Maine House has voted to uphold Governor LePage’s veto of a bill on mortgage foreclosures. The vote was 69 to 69, well short of the two-thirds majority vote needed to override a veto. The governor says the bill would do nothing to shorten the foreclosure process in Maine and would add an unnecessary new burden on lenders.Democrats disagree, saying the bill would have prevented large mortgage companies from foreclosing on homes they might not legally own.
