Federal Grant Provides Free Produce for Seniors

Free and fresh local produce will soon be available to seniors in the state who qualify.Enrollment in the state’s Senior FarmShare program has begun.The program provides qualified seniors to collect $50 of produce during the growing season.It is funded by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service, Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP).In 2011, Maine received more than $1 million for the program, which has helped serve thousands of seniors around the state.To find out if you qualify and locate a participating farm, please visit Your text to link…
