Maine’s Secretary of State officially announced his canidacy for the United States Senate seat being vacated by Olympia Snowe.Charles Summers made the announcement in Augusta Tuesday afternoon. Summers worked for senator snowe as an aid for 12 years.Maine’s Secretary of State says his experience in business and his service in the military sets him apart from the other six candidates in the Republican field.Summers also says he would be willing to work across the aisle if it’s in the best interest of Maine people. “It is a very difficult atmosphere in Washington,” Summers told reporters. “And I believe change in America is really being driven by the states. But it s important to have someone in Washington who is willing to suit up, and is willing think to make tough decisions and stand and be counted.”The Republican primary is just under three months away.
