Despite Rain, Folks Enjoy Sweet Tradition of Maine Maple Sunday

Syrup producers across the state opened their doors for a sweet tradition that shows what Maine is all about.Maine Maple Sunday brings together consumers and producers to kick off the syrup season. We visited the sugar house at Lucerne Maple Products in Holden.Owner Timothy Littlefield says the holiday gives farmers the chance to show folks that maple syrup isn’t just for pancakes and french toast.Despite the rain, Littlefield says they still had a good turnout.”We’ve had a lot of people today that have never been to a sugar house. They had no inclination as to how sugar was made and it’s a lot of fun to be able to show that,” he said.Littlefield says this year’s weather hasn’t been kind to the syrup industry. At his farm, they’ve made less than twenty percent of their crop.
