Lawmaker says Sponsored Bill Involving Irving Holds No Conflict of Interest 

A lawmaker who sponsored a bill to rewrite mining laws says he sees no conflict of interest in his business dealings with a company connected to mining.State Representative John Martin wants to make it easier for the J.D. Irving Company to get permits to mine in Bald Mountain in Northern Maine.The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting says bankruptcy filings show a convenience store Martin co-owns in Eagle Lake owes Irving oil $250,000 for fuel. Martin says there’s no connection between Irving Oil and Irving’s mining operation, so there’s no conflict of interest.
