Just under 100 quilts were on display in Bangor on Tuesday. The Hammond Street Senior Center held a quilt exhibit featuring both antique and new quilts. Some were for sale and some were just for show, but they’re all made by members or friends of members.Organizers say the exhibit was a good opportunity for other quilters to find inspiration in the different techniques.”We hope to have some quilters come in to look and say ‘Oh, that’s a great idea,’ but also to bring people into the center. It’s amazing how many people don’t know this is here and all the activities for the seniors,” said Denise Gault, a volunteer at the senior center who contributed many of her own quilts to the exhibit. One special quilt on display is being raffled off to benefit the senior center’s programs. The quilt was a group effort by many senior center members. Tickets are available at the center until a drawing in October.
