Game Three Win Helps Maine Advance To Hockey East Semifinals

Last night at the Alfond, a hockey game turned into a street fight. When the dust cleared, it was Merrimack who came out with a win, forcing tonight’s game three. It was do-or-die for Maine tonight.A win would send Dan Sullivan and his team to Boston next weekendbut a loss may very well end their season.First period, Black Bears get off to a good start. Adam Shemansky feeds Spencer Abbott and he blasts it past Joe Cannata in goal to put Maine up 1-0. In the second, Maine moving into the offensive zone. Abbott’s turned awaybut sophomore Brice O’Connor is able to put the rebound in to give the Black Bears a 2-0 lead.Merrimack would make it interesting midway through the second. Ryan Flanagan is able to put one past Sullivan to put the Warriors on the board.But that would be all for Merrimack. With seconds left to go, Maine sends the puck down the ice and they win it! 2-1 the final.They advance to the Hockey East semifinals where they will face Boston University on Friday night at the TD Garden.
