Beattie Goal Leads Maine Past Merrimack In Game One

Buckle up, the playoff run has started for the UMaine hockey team. Game One of the Hockey East Quarterfinals tonight between the Black Bears and the Merrimack Warriors, and as expected, things were close.It was the 4-5 matchup in the Hockey East bracket and a rematch of last year’s quarterfinals.First period, things were physical right away. Jon Swavely with a vicious hit on Shawn Bates, five minute major for against the Black Bears.That led to a Mike Collins goal late on the power play. He’s able to beat Dan Sullivan and the Warriors go up 1-0.In the second period, the Black Bears even it up. Off the turnover, Spencer Abbott to Joey Diamond and he beats Joe Cannatta. We’re tied at one.Later in the second, Kyle Beattie with a wrister and it beats Cannatta high, looked like it surprised him, and it’s 2-1 Maine. That’s all they would need tonight. Maine wins 2-1.
