Folks passing by Main Street in Bangor may have noticed new signs at the former Hollywood Slots. It’s now officially called Hollywood Casino, Hotel and Raceway.”It’s a monumental event for us. Changing our name to being a full-scale casino, complete with table games, slots, live poker and we have simulcast racing here as well,” said General Manager, John Osborne. The table games include black jack, roulette, and three and four card poker. The casino’s general manager says it’s been quite an adventure since voters in Penobscot County voted in favor of table games.”Our company had planned on table games at some point in the future, once people had gotten comfortable with us as part of the community and the jobs we’ve created, the taxes that have provided the opportunity for the new arena,” said Osborne.Table games are set to open March 16th. We’re told the expansion has brought more than 90 new jobs to the area.Quite a few people have taken part in training for the table games.”Practically everyone has received an offer from us, either on a full time or part time and occasional basis,” said Osborne. It’s even brought one local back to where he grew up.”It’s awesome. I’m back with my brothers and sisters. I’ve waited 10 years to come back here,” said Table Game Supervisor, Robert Eldridge.Local tourism officials say the expansion is another positive addition to Bangor.”I think it’s a great feather in our camp if you will, for our community, our tourism, and ourselves as a destination. This is just another way to really give a great experience to a wide variety of people when they want to come,” said Executive Director of Greater Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau, Kerrie Tripp.”They have hired local people, they have adopted our local way. Bangor as a community is very giving and they give back and help their people in need and Hollywood has stepped right up to that,” said Tripp.
