Big Name Democrats Looking at Senate Run

TV5 has confirmed that Rep. Mike Michaud, Rep. Chellie Pingree and former Governor John Baldacci have picked up petitions to run for U.S. Senate.Spokespersons from both Michaud’s office and the secretary of state’s office said Michaud has taken out papers.On Tuesday after Senator Olympia Snowe announced she would not be running for re-election, Congressman Michaud said in a statement, “I’ve been extremely humbled by the outpouring of encouragement I’ve received from all over our state to run for the Senate…I’m seriously considering entering the race. I plan to make a final decision in the coming days.”Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree released a statement on Wednesday saying she is collecting signatures for a possible U.S. Senate campaign. In the statement she said, “Running for the Senate isn’t something I had been thinking of, but this is an incredibly important election for Maine and the country.”The secretary of state’s office has confirmed that former Governor John Baldacci also picked up petitions on Wednesday.
